Publication Date:2017-01-10

On December 29, Mr. Shu Yinbiao, Chairman and Secretary of the Party Committee of SGCC and Mr. Mohammad Yunus Dagha, permanent secretary of the Ministry of Water and Power of Pakistan entered into relevant agreements on Pakistan Matiari-Lahore DC Transmission Project at the 6th Meeting of Joint Cooperation Committee on China-Pakistan Economic Corridor. This move marks the Project has entered the stage of full implementation, and is also a significant measure for the Company to implement the “Belt and Road Initiative” and promote the building of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.

Mr. Jia Zhiqiang, GM of China Electric Power Equipment and Technology Co., Ltd. (CET) attended the signing ceremony. According to the Agreement, CET will implement the Project in a mode of BOOT. Upon the completion of relevant examination and approval, the Project is expected to start in the first half year of 2017.

In April 2015, under the witness of President Xi Jinping and Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Mr. Shu Yinbiao and Mr. Mohammad Yunus Dagha signed the Cooperation Agreement on Project to include Matiari-Lahore DC Transmission Project in the list of priority projects. The Project is the first DC project in Pakistan and also the first foreign investment project in the field of power transmission. It will adopt ±660 kV DC transmission technology with the transmission capacity of 4 million kW and the line length of about 878 km.

Its successful implementation not only opens up the power transmission corridor of south-to-north power transmission in Pakistan, but also stimulates Chinese enterprises “going global”. Moreover, it will facilitate the Company to further expand overseas market and enhance its international recognition.
